Nigeria’s Flamingos secured a 1-0 victory over the Dominican Republic in the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, thanks to an 89th minute goal from Shakirat Moshood.
This win, held at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez, ensured Nigeria’s perfect record in the group stage, advancing them to the knockout rounds with three consecutive victories.
The match also saw the introduction of Peace Effiong and Harmony Chidi, who injected fresh energy into the game, helping Nigeria break down the resilient Dominican defence.
Moshood has now scored in all three group-stage matches, proving an essential player for the team heading into the knockout phase.
Coach Bankole made three changes to the lineup for this match, bringing in Ramotalahi Kareem, Blessing Ifitezue, and Rokibat Azeez. Despite a strong defensive display from the Dominican Republic, which forced Nigeria into attempting numerous long range shots, Moshood’s persistence paid off when she scored the winning goal from distance.
